My Mission Impossible?

I've been set a brief at uni, we're basically allowed to what we want (within reason!) as long as it's collaborative.
I have decided to take this as an opportunity to conduct a social experiment. I want to look at how powerful branding and the media are. How powerful is Design Communication?
I want to see if I can create a fake girl band in 4 weeks, and then see how much we can get away with, will any one even believe us?
The band will be formed of maybe 3-5 girls, none of which are trained singers.
I plan to create a website, my space page and fake CD covers.
I'm also hoping to put a track together. This may contain royalty free vocals or our own vocals that will be digitally re-mastered to sound good!

I think this is a great way to see if the music industry is as fickle as people say it is, is image given more importance than real musical talent?
